13th-Aug-2007 02:32 pm - The Weekend
Hat

I have had a long hot weekend. It started at 6am on Saturday morning when I got up to go to Bolton. As there was no cricket match for me I decided to go and watch Bolton Newcastle it being the first game of the season and the return of Big Sam to Bolton for the first time since he left last year after 7 years at the club.

The drive up was surprisingly uneventful and I go to the Reebok Stadium just after 10. I got my ticket and wandered round the ground

I got two new shirts as well a Black one and a white one and a cap and some other bits and bobs. As it was really hot I wanted a drink so I walked up to the Beehive which I had read online was the nearest pub. It was FULL of Newcastle supporters and the security nearly didn't let me in and when I had had my drink they insisted I went out the back door and not the front!

So I walked back to the Reebok Stadium and waited around the players entrance watching the players arrive. The security were really keen to stop any autographs and just whisked the players straight into the ground. This caused some interesting discussions with the fans which was quite entertaining. Kevin Nolan and Kevin Davies pushed the security away and signed autographs which was cool.

When Diouf arrived the security took him straight in and wouldn't let him sign anything but then they  couldn't get his Ferrari to move. They had to ask for someone to come out and drive it it was very funny

The game was a disaster as Newcastle scored 3 times in the first 30 minutes and we lost 3-1 so the less said the better.

I managed to explore the M6 Toll by mistake but I got back safe and sound.

Sunday morning I went off to Stogumber to play in the Hinkley Point Cup Final for Bagborough. We won the toss and batted first. I went in No5 and top scored with 33 leading us to 156 and then we bowled them out for 110. Yay we won the cup!!!

Yorkie and I then made a mad dash over to Nynehead still in our whites and went straight out into the field for the Return Of Jess from Australia for a one off game! He of course then went on to score a century the 5th he has scored against them!

Afterwards I went to the pub and spent a nice evening nattering with Jess, Dave, Graham and Rivers

Rotten ol body letting me down this week. Started feeling grim on Friday but went out delivering. Got soaked and had to go out to Bruton to deliver a couple of boxes forgotten from the day before. Took me more than 3 1/2 hours. Got home and took of damp clothes and got into bed to warm up.

When MyLove got home we got ready and went off to Mum's for a BBQ. All the family were going to be there. Aunty Di had come over form the States with two of my cousins kids, Uncle Paul and Aunty Janis came down. Uncle Norman and Ruth came too. Unfortunately Jenni who had got the train got kicked out in Birmingham onto a coach and then spent the night on the M5 poor love and Uncle Ian sat in traffic on the M4 until it wasn't worth him coming and he turned round and went back again.

Bex showed off her fire poi and a good time was had. Since then MyLove and I have been taking turns on the loo! That's enough information but safe to say we have been grim and Steve has been horrible to us as usual.

Am also having lots of fun on Facebook finding friends and enjoying the easiness of the whole thing

Yeah I managed to go all the way to BK and back with my phone without incident.

Thinking about it though, all those trips were in the RR and I was in the Ford as the Rangie is in disgrace, havin misbehaved most naughtily. (That was said in a much jauntier tome than I actually feel)

10th-Jul-2007 10:46 pm - Stuff and Nonsense
Hat
Well it has to be said that there is a lot of stuff here and some nonsense so I figured it was worth adding to it.

Whilst drifting dreamily along with Mr Red Bull and Master Embassy on the smoking platform next to the train line a yellow two carriaged maintenance train went past. It went rather slow.

Listened to Five Live and they said pissed. During the daytime. Is nothing sacred. Bastards.

Got a big hole in my trousies. It was a small hole but it ripped when I sat down last night. Still wore them today though.

Got my name in the paper again for my swashbuckling red leather ball willow smashing on Saturday.

Put BoyDog in the car with his fancy harness on. Forgot to fasten it (and therefore him) to the seatbelt. Didnt realise until we got to work. He's a good dog.

Forgotten what the day is been putting 10/5 all day what a wazack

Didnt buy MyLove anything for her Burfday. Under orders mind you. So dont beat me repeatedly with a large stick and lock me in a cupboard and feed me cardboard.

Gave Greyface tea and then carried her around the house showing her that there is more to it than just the window sill with its magic food bowl which amazingly gets filled up as soon as she arrives.

Looks like the weather will be good enough for me to enjoy two games of cricket in a week for the first time in a month.

Went to Edgbaston to watch ODI and then dropped in on Auntie Biff on the way back. Wish I'd had a camera to catch the look on her face!

Moved many plenty things to various places and round corners helping M and G move house.

Watched a peregrine falcon teaching its baby to fly. By the noise the baby was making it didnt enjoy it too much although it was spec tack lee ar to watch

Happy Birthday
3rd-Jul-2007 11:06 pm - RIP Jezebel
Hat

Before MyLove and I got married my Dad moved house and didn't want to take the two cats that had been given to him as they were moving near to a road. The two cats didn't really come inside very much they lived in the outside toilet when they bothered to come.

Jezebel and Delilah were their names and at first, second and even third look they were indistinguishable. Once you got to know them you realised that Jezebel had a pink nose and Delilah a black one and Jezebel's coat was little lighter.

They moved to Priory cottage with us and would mostly come back for their tea and maybe spend a couple of hours in with us. Jezebel brought us back half a rabbit once. I remember the look on Mostyn the collie dog's face when he went into the front room and saw a cat on the sofa and went to sniff it and it hit him so he ran across the room and jumped on the other sofa only to get smacked by the 'same' cat so he ran to the other sofa to escape only to find that the cat had beaten him there too. He ended up sat in the middle of the room doing his damnedest to look at both sides of the room at the same time.

I remember the first time she brought something specially for us and I thought she was terribly hurt only for her to deposit a dead animal at my feet wait for me to say well done and take it away to consume it. Gradually she went blind. We didn't notice in fact unless you told people they didn't notice. She could probably see light and shade but not much more. Didn't stop her showing the kitten how to play with a fish toy and killing' it first time every time which is more than he could do even when he was big. Or the time a baby bird got lost and flew into our bedroom at the farm. The two cats in the room watched it fly around a bit until this blur came in from the front room and took it out of the air and off to its maker

Jezebel was generally pretty rotten to other animals. She would smack her sister when she woke up almost just for something to do. Mostyn never got close to her. She used to be a "fuss me fuss me fuss me more more more more enough whack no now fuss me again" cat but she chilled with age and would happily snuggle with us and have loves for hours. She spent months and months keeping MyLove company when she was laid out in bed with flare-ups and back operations. Definitely a Mummy's girl but she was quite fond of me too. I was the first person she ever granted lying on your lap privileges to. She could talk too boy could she talk. Especially at tea time You would think that she had been on starvation rations the way she went on.

JakeDog absolutely adored her. From the very first minute he laid eyes on her as a six week old puppy. He would creep up to her with his big ol puppy eyes all full of love and when he got close she would smack him, so he would creep up to her all lovingly gazing at her and when he got close she would smack him. Eventually he would just lie there gazing wistfully at her. When she thought no-one was looking though she was quite partial to using him as a heat leeching post and cuddling up to him. This would make him quiver with his joy at being close to his Jezebel whilst desperate not to move and therefore get smacked. She was also known in her younger days for coming with you when you walked the dog. Quite happily wandering along on the other side of the road whilst you walked, something which Duchess and Merlin seem like they might have a penchant for as well

You always knew when she was happy. She could purr and purr and her nose would dribble when she was especially content, something it often did on MyLoves arm

She was probably 22 years old a fantastic age for a fantastic cat. She was a wonderful friend and soft soppy cuddle but she knew her own mind and would readily tell you and show you EXACTLY what she meant.

Night Night my Boo Boos. Sleep well.

24th-Jun-2007 01:08 pm - That There Lon-Don
Hat

So the Beatnik had a gig. In London. So after watching Hot Fuzz we, of course had to spend all day going on about going to that there Lon-don.

Thanks to the wonders of modern technology (or the TomTom as it is usually called) we did get all the way up there and on our way we think we did see Kevin Doyle just outside Reading as well.

We went to Bethnal Green and found the place and then went on the high street for the best cup of coffee I have had for a long time and sat and read the newspapers on the street watching the people go by in the many colourful attire.

Then we went back to meet Andy ( Andy's MySpace )who had arranged the gig and who Beatnik was playing with (oo-er)

This is where they were playing. (You can click pictures for a bigger view)

Inside was very interesting it looked like this

Yes dear reader it is in fact a shop. A retro clothes shop called Beyond Retro. Beyond Retro MySpace  A mass of colour and retro clothing but one of the strangest places to do a gig that I have ever seen!!

and I took photos

and some video unfortunately the sound is pretty poor from my digi stills camera

And they got paid in clothes!!

The journey back was equally as entertaining with ladies in purple calling Beatnik for every name under the sun when he waved at then when they were hailing a cab! A cute blonde things boyfriend getting really aggy with me when I noticed that there was a cute blond thing in the car next to us. Whilst driving past Reading I thought it would be a good idea to show Beatnik where MyLove and I did meet and where we worked. Should have been very easy as it is literally 2 minutes form the motorway if you know where you are going. Unfortunately when you don't know where you are going and forget the name of the road and phone up your love and she cant remember either, when you finally get there it was oh right ok can we get back on the motorway now please!!

We did drop in on my littlest sister on the way home as she was home all alone as M and G were off at a conference. She was ok if a little tired and sun burnt from doing poi all afternoon.

Beatnik then did feed us with wonderful nummy chicken stir fry and we did look at all the photos and videos of the day before doing good impressions of logs

24th-Jun-2007 10:35 am - Big Tele and hot fuzz
Hat

Afrter much palava and mucking about we have bow got a shiny new entertainment system. Gone is the old tele sold to BEatnik for 26 pence. Gone also is the video player only needed as a way of getting more than one signal into the TV without having to unplug wires to play the xbox or watch a DVD.

Now we have a 37 incher!! a LCD of the Phillips variety hooked up to the XBox360, Sky and my old pc running media centre so that we can pause and record live tv and watch DVDS and listen to the music on the pc and also to look at the photos on the TV as well.

It was not quite as easy as that. The first pc we got would not start properly and had to go back to the shop. The first wall mount we got, despite the help and advice of two shop blokeys would not fit ont he back of the TV so I had to go back again to get another. The times the wires and connectors had been in and out are beyond the counting abilities of all but the most advanced of computer monitoring systems!

All in All it was a pain in the neck. However it is all up and runnign now and the TV is looking pretty on th ewall and the ret of the stuff on a new shelf underneath so the room looks  alittle bigger too.

We celebrated by watching Hot Fuzz

Its brilliant. Without doubt the best film I have seen for many a long time. It made us laugh so much and so often that we are going to have to watch it again soon to see all the bits that we missed first time round! It is full of quotable lines and references to other films and we adored it.

Danny Butterman: So what made you want to become a policeman?
Nicholas Angel: Officer.
Danny Butterman: What made you want to become a policeman officer?

and

Nicholas Angel: All right, what about this guy? Ask yourself, why has he got his hat pulled down like that?
Danny Butterman: He's fuck-ugly.
Nicholas Angel: Or, he doesn't want you to see his face.
Danny Butterman: Yeah, it's 'cause he's fuck-ugly.

TEE HEEE

16th-Jun-2007 09:54 am - Brave visitor
Hat

Our little stray cat who we think is one of the feral kittens born last year who led us a merry dance round our garden and scratched us to billy-o has been getting braver.

For a while now she has been coming a calling for her tea. Normally quite late when it is dark and she has had biscuits outside on the path.

This week she has been coming up to the window

and even eating her food inside on the window ledge

A couple of times she has even slept there just inside the window. Yesterday she came in for breakfast as well as tea and let us stroke her

Her fur is quite rough not smooth and silky like the others but last night she even let me (and MyLove) pick her up

OK the picture isn't great but proof nonetheless!

14th-Jun-2007 07:42 pm - Got a postcard?
Hat
Today vanished in a haze of goneness. It was morning then afternoon then suddenly evening was upon us.

MyLove has not been very well today and even had an attack of the pukey monster. She is feeling quite rotten this week, this flare up is abit of a beasty it must be said.

Still tomorrow is another day and will no doubt begin in the morning.

Am in a state of indecision about football. Part of me says it is time to stop that my body can't do it anymore and fitness is an issue. But I know I will miss it if I stop and I get no satisfaction from being there on the sidelines helping so if I stop there will be a big hole in the weekends

Answers on a postcard please
